In this article, you will learn how to change directory indexes in cPanel. The cPanel Index Manager allows you to customise the way a directory appears when no index files are in a directory. You can change each directory with the following index options:
Inherit – Select this mode to use the parent directory’s setting. If the index settings are not defined in the parent directory, the system will use its default settings.
No Indexing – No files will appear for this directory if a default file is missing.
Show Filename Only- This mode shows a simple list of the files present if the default file is missing.
Show Filename and Description – This mode shows a list of files and their attributes: file size and file type.

How to change a directory index setting in cPanel
To modify a directory’s index settings, follow these steps:
- Log in to cPanel.

- Find the directory name you wish you modify then press Edit.
- Select the indexing option you would like to set.
