When Katie Hatfield, founder of The Yorkshire Editor, approached us about her website redesign, we immediately knew we were working with someone who takes words just as seriously as we take design.

Katie’s business is a trusted, one-woman powerhouse offering editing, proofreading, copywriting, and specialist writing services it had outgrown its original Wix site. While her content was engaging and her services compelling, the digital presentation no longer reflected the professionalism or depth of experience behind her brand.

Understanding the Client

Before we wrote a single line of code or opened a design tool, we dove deep into understanding who Katie is and what The Yorkshire Editor stands for. Her tone is warm, knowledgeable, approachable, and rooted in genuine passion for her craft. The new website needed to reflect that.

From Wix to WordPress

The migration from Wix to WordPress gave us the freedom and flexibility to create a bespoke experience. WordPress offered the backend robustness that The Yorkshire Editor needed, as well as full design control for us to craft something truly unique.

We began by mapping out the structure of the new five-page site, ensuring each page had a clear purpose:

  • Homepage – A compelling introduction to the brand, with standout messaging, a clear call to action, and Katie’s warm personality front and centre.
  • About – Showcasing Katie’s journey from teacher to editor, her qualifications, and what makes her approach so human and unique.
  • Services – A breakdown of every offering from Line Editing to Puzzle Editing, with easy-to-digest descriptions and friendly subheadings.
  • Previous Work – Featuring glowing client reviews and building immediate trust.
  • Contact – A clean page with multiple contact methods and a clear call to action.

 

Content & Tone

The biggest strength of The Yorkshire Editor is, of course, the words, so we let Katie shine. Katie’s writing is filled with personality, empathy, and expertise. Rather than dilute it, we built a design that complemented her voice. Clean typography, generous spacing, and clear information hierarchies allowed the content to breathe and engage.

We also added subtle visual touches, soft textures, a warm palette, and custom icons to reinforce the friendly yet professional tone Katie is known for.

 

Accessibility & Mobile Responsiveness

Given Katie’s work with diverse clients, including those with dyslexia and EAL learners, accessibility was a priority. We chose readable fonts, ensured high-contrast colour schemes, and optimised navigation for both desktop and mobile users.

The result is a site that feels just as intuitive and welcoming on a smartphone as it does on a widescreen display.
