How to upload and download files using cPanel File Manager

In this article, you will learn how to upload and download files via cPanel’s file manager. This is useful if you don’t have access to an FTP client, If you have access to an FTP client we would recommend you use that instead for larger files.

Uploading a file to the file manager #

To upload a file using File Manager, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Search for File Manager then click it.
  3. Go to the directory you would like to upload a file.
  4. Click Upload located in the main menu.
    A new tab will open.
  5. Click select file or drag the file into the box.
  6. After the loading bar has turned green press go back.
    The tab will now close.
  7. Your file has now successfully uploaded.

Downloading a file from the file manager #

To download a file using File Manager, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Search for File Manager then click it.
  3. Go to the directory you would like to download a file(s) from.
  4. Select the files you wish to download by holding shift.
    If you have selected a folder you will need to compress it, You can do this by following the method below.
  5. When the files have been selected, right-click then press download.
  6. Your files will now begin to download.

Downloading a folder from the file manager #

To download a folder using File Manager, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Search for File Manager then click it.
  3. Go to the directory you would like to download a folder from.
  4. Select the folders you wish to download by holding shift.
  5. When the files have been selected, right-click then press compress.
  6. Press compress files.
  7. After the files have been compressed press close.
  8. Find the compressed folder.
  9. Right-click then press download.
  10. Your files will now begin to download.
