Setting up your cPanel email account on Apple Mac Mail is a quick and straightforward process. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the step-by-step process to set up your cPanel email account on macOS, ensuring a smooth integration with Apple Mail. By the end of this tutorial, you’ll be able to send and receive emails effortlessly from your Mac.
Step 1: Open Apple Mail
- Launch the Mail application on your Mac.
- In the top-left corner select Mail then select Add Account.
Step 2: Select Mail Account Provider
- A window titled Choose a Mail Account Provider will appear.
- Since we are adding a cPanel email account we will need to select Other Mail Account then select Continue.
Step 3: Enter Your Email Account Information
- In the Name field, type the name you want to display on outgoing emails.
- In the Email Address field, enter your full email address. In our case, we have written contact@sheffieldwebsitehosting.co.uk.
- In the Password field, type the password for your email account.
- Select Sign In.
- If an error appears saying Unable to verify account name or password, don’t worry this is expected with a cPanel account as mail will need to know the mail servers settings. This will be fixed in the next steps.
Step 4: Configure Incoming Mail Server Settings
- Enter your full email address as the Username. We have entered contact@sheffieldwebsitehosting.co.uk.
- Re-enter your Password ONLY if the password has been cleared.
- In the Account Type dropdown, select: IMAP which is recommended so you can sync across multiple devices.
- In the Incoming Mail Server field, enter your mail server address. This is usually mail.yourdomainname.co.uk so we will be entering mail.sheffieldwebsitehosting.co.uk.
- In the Outgoing Mail Server field, enter your mail server address. This is usually the same as the incoming mail server so we will be entering mail.sheffieldwebsitehosting.co.uk.
- Click Sign In.
*Important: Even though Mac Mail may label the Username and Password fields for the outgoing mail server as optional, you must enter them to send emails successfully.
Step 5: Finalising Mail Account Setup
- If your login is successful Mac Mail will ask which apps to associate with this email account. Make sure that Mail is checked. If you wish to sync notes with this account make sure to also check Notes
- Select Done.
- Mail will add the account and begin downloading messages.
